为了 (purpose) and 因为 (cause)
Both come out as for or because, but one looks forward and the other looks back.
规则
为了 + a PURPOSE, something still to be achieved: 为了学好汉语，我每天都练习。
因为 + a CAUSE, something that already happened: 因为下雨，所以我们没去。
The test: 为了 looks ahead, 因为 looks back.
因此 = therefore, a more formal 所以.
