这/那/哪 need a measure word
这书 is wrong and 这本书 is right — unless 这 stands alone as the subject.
The rule
Before a noun, 这/那/哪 MUST take a measure word: 这本书, 那个人, 哪个学校。 Never 这书。
Standing alone as the subject they need none: 这是我的书。 那不是我的。
哪儿 asks where; 哪个 asks which one of a set.
The three differ by distance: 这 near the speaker, 那 far, 哪 the question.
