HSK 2 · 看看 · 试试

Reduplicated verbs: giving it a go

Doubling the verb softens the sentence — the politest way to suggest anything.

The rule A doubled verb means doing it a bit, having a go: 你看看。 我想试试。
One-syllable verbs: AA (看看) or A一A (看一看).
Two-syllable verbs: ABAB — 休息休息, 学习学习。 Never AABB.
If it already happened, 了 goes in the middle: 我看了看。
