根本, 从来, 丝毫 — emphatic negatives
Three adverbs that live almost only in negatives — take the 不/没 away and they collapse.

根本 + 不/没 = not at all, not from the start: 我根本不知道这件事。
从来 + 不/没 = never in all this time: 他从来不迟到。 从来没去过。
丝毫 + 不/没 = not in the slightest, in writing: 他丝毫不在意。
ALL THREE nearly always take a negative. 根本 appears in the positive only as a noun or adjective: 根本原因。
The distinction: 根本 is about the nature of the thing, 从来 about time, 丝毫 about degree.
