而 — linking and turning
One 而 does three contradictory jobs, and only the context says which.
규칙
而 joins two clauses running the SAME way: 他勤奋而聪明。 (and, moreover)
而 joins two running the OPPOSITE way: 他很努力，而结果并不理想。 (yet)
而 joins a MANNER to an action: 破门而入。
Fixed frames to learn: 因…而…, 为…而…, 从而, 反而, 进而。
而 only joins like with like — two adjectives, two clauses. Joining nouns is 和's job.
