所 + verb, and the 为…所 passive
所 turns a verb into a noun phrase, and 为…所 is the written passive.
规则
所 + verb + 的 = that which … : 我所知道的 = what I know. 他所说的话。
所 raises the register and can usually be dropped, but where it appears the object must be absent.
为 A 所 B = done to by A — the written passive: 为人所知, 为大家所接受。
被 belongs to speech, 为…所 to writing; the meaning is the same.
