The line and the image I am posting here are from the trailer for the film Wonka (2023) (which comes out this Christmas) — the musical regarded as a prequel to Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
A great many of the children’s and fantasy authors I love now are ones my own students led me to read. Roald Dahl is one of them. I remember hours of reading together: Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox, George’s Marvellous Medicine, The Witches, and more.
I wish I had been able to read them when I was small, and I hope the children of today will come to a wider range of books earlier than our generation did.
Do watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), or wait for Wonka (2023), so that it is still that same bar of chocolate and yet brings you more than you expect.
Remember this — revisit it in a few days.
