How Should We Answer When Someone Asks If We Are All Right?

If you can, let that friend know what is happening to you. You may not be able to imagine it, but that person could save your life, or the life of someone in your family. And this is one of the stories I always come back to when I want to share something with people.

Around 2018 grandma’s back suddenly began hurting badly, for no reason anyone could find. She grew weaker, and her spirits sank a great deal.

Happily, there was anh Nam from bác Thông’s household (he is also a grandchild of hers). Earlier his own grandmother had had a fall and used a poultice from a family herbal pharmacy in Nam Định, and she recovered completely. And my grandmother, after many different medicines that did nothing at all, went through the same small miracle after only about one or two months on the poultice anh Nam bought for her.

Then, quite a while later, I was talking with Giang, a friend I love very much, and Giang’s grandmother had just come down with exactly the same pain, and again with no cause anyone could find. Giang’s family tried many things and she did not get better. Happily they too went all the way to Nam Định and had the medicine made up for her. And she has become well and cheerful again — only recently she made Giang sit on the bike so that she could push her granddaughter along.
