从…到… and 离

从…到… is a stretch you travel; 离 is the gap that just sits between two points.

規則 从 A 到 B works for time and for place: 从八点到十二点, 从北京到上海。
离 states the DISTANCE between two points: 我家离学校很近。
No 从 after 离. A 离 sentence usually ends in 远/近 or a number.
离 also measures time left: 离上课还有十分钟。
